Hi! I’m a mother of two wonderful young women in college and am a professor in the Chemistry & Biochemistry department at Ohio University. I enjoy adventuring both near and far with my awesome husband and daughters.

How did you get involved with OVMoD?

I have been involved with OVMoD from the beginning and have enjoyed seeing the museum grow over the years.

What is your favorite museum exhibit/program?

I really enjoyed the ACE: Art of Construction & Experimentation exhibit. It was a fun blend of interdisciplinary, hands-on activities that highlighted interesting themes in common across disciplines.

What other museums do you enjoy?

I have always loved the Field Museum in Chicago. It was awe-inspiring when I visited as a child and continues to be an exciting place to visit.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I enjoy sewing, especially making a new outfit. I enjoy choosing the fabric and pairing it with the right pattern. Then, when it comes time to sew it together, I lose track of time because it is so much fun to see a three dimensional shape emerge from separate, flat pieces of material.

What do you like about our region?

I really love the feeling of community and also how beautiful it is here.

What makes you curious?

Many things make me curious. I love to wonder “why?”.

Who is your STEAM idol? (science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics)

My mom is my STEAM idol. She was an amazing counselor, tailor, chef and businesswoman who raised five children with what seemed like endless calm. She taught us math and chemistry while cooking; budgeting and bookkeeping while grocery shopping; spatial reasoning, engineering and accuracy while sewing; and, she taught us to love reading and learning.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

I’m having too much fun doing what I’m doing now to ever want to grow up!

What is your favorite season?

My favorite season is spring, when the cherry blossoms bloom along the river.

What are your hopes for OVMoD in the future?

My hope is that OVMoD will be the museum that future scientists, business leaders, public officials and artists will remember as having fostered their confidence to explore, discover and communicate.

Thank you Jenny for your dedication to OVMoD’s vision!
