Today’s Museum Board member to know is Christie Truly:
I’m Christie Truly. After stops in New York, California, and Wisconsin, my husband and I moved here in August 2001 – – what a great decision! Our daughter is a freshman at Athens High School. She and the museum have grown up together.
How did you get involved with OVMoD?
My involvement with OVMoD began when Debbie Phillips asked me if I wanted to help start a discovery museum for our area. We posted some flyers, sent out some emails, and held our first meeting.
What is your favorite museum exhibit/program?
My favorite OVMoD exhibit is the brain teaser puzzles because adults get into them as much as kids. I’ve seen families spend hours on those puzzles TOGETHER. That’s what it’s all about!
What other museums do you enjoy?
I enjoy going to art museums. There’s nothing like losing yourself in a wall of color.
What do you like to do in your free time?
Free time means reading, looking for local/original art in thrift shops, and going to plays and other live performances.
What do you like most about our region?
Our region is beautiful, is filled with people who have good hearts who try to improve the lives of others, and maintains a strong sense of identity.
What makes you curious?
Lately, a lot of my internal questions have been about the history/science of food. You know, what made someone cook the first egg? When did pie come into existence? How did our ancestors learn to cook meat for safety?
Who is your STEAM hero?
My STEAM heroes are Leonardo da Vinci and Filippo Brunelleschi.
Favorite season?
My favorite season is fall.
What’s on your bucket list?
My bucket list includes going back to school, learning a foreign language, and visiting South America.
What are your hopes for OVMoD in the future?
My greatest wish for OVMoD is for it to be a vibrant center of exploration for everyone in our area.
